I started The Baer Faxt thirty years ago to provide collectors, dealers, and other art professionals the essential insider information they need. That’s why it might come as a surprise to some of our subscribers that we’ve devoted an entire Global Guide to the Metaverse. After all—I’ve been a public skeptic since the height of the craze, and with a highly publicized NFT crash in 2022, it seems many have joined me. Why is this essential?
First of all, an off market is not a dead one. There are still major players in the NFT and crypto spaces finding success. As the technology has improved, institutional adoption has steadily increased. And, you can’t deny the “wild west” factor: When creative people get their hands on new technology with few established rules and a financial incentive, the odds are something interesting happens.
Secondly, skepticism isn’t ignorance. At The Baer Faxt, it’s our job to be skeptical of everything, from painting, to sculpture, to yes, digital art. That doesn’t mean we turn up our noses and walk away, like some in the art world have: It means we dig even deeper. We asked our guests, whose credentials and experience across the space speak for themselves, the serious questions we want to know the answers to.
So, whether you’re a collector looking to dip your toe into the digital art world, a former holder turned off by the hype, or a crypto “true believer”, this is the guide for you. We’re excited to learn with you.
