What is American Art? Inside Sotheby’s “American Views” with The Baer Faxt & Sotheby’s Nick Deimel
We weren’t the only ones thinking about America’s artistic and cultural legacy ahead of the 250th, so we headed to the Breuer Building to take a look at how Sotheby’s selling exhibition, “American Views: People & Places,” showcases the multiplicity of voices and perspectives that have shaped American visual and material culture. The show unfolds across five chapters, with over 120 artworks and objects—from an 1823 facsimile of the Declaration of Independence, through the landscapes and figures that shaped the nation’s social fabric, and all the way to pop.
